DETAILS

Cocoon Lantern Workshop Wednesday, November 30th | 6-8pm Ages 13+ Create a luminous symbol of transformation and growth to light your way this winter season! Inspired by the striking organic forms of a butterfly's cocoon, this simple lantern project is beginner-friendly with lots of room for creative expression and exploration. Start by constructing a lightweight lantern frame using locally-gathered sticks to create a unique sculptural form, then choose from a wide assortment of colored papers -- or the instructor's personal collection of vibrant saree silks! -- to create a luminous covering for your lantern. Two different styles of battery-operated lights will be available, and lanterns may be designed to hang from above, to sit on a mantel or tabletop, or to be displayed in either orientation. Completed lanterns may range from vibrant and colorful to earthy and rustic, reflecting each person's individual taste and creative vision. The finished lantern will be sturdy and weatherproof, suitable for temporary outdoor display or long-term use on a covered porch or indoor space. This beginner-friendly project is great for ages 12+; younger participants may be accepted with the instructor's consent. Workshop will be held at the MOSS store in downtown Port Angeles. Participants can enjoy 20% off for shopping in the store this evening. Each workshop attendee will also receive one ticket to the Wintertide Festival of Lights on Saturday, December 10th. Bring your umbrella or lantern and join the community lantern walk through Webster's Woods!
